What SEO Job has taught me

If you are a new bee in the field of SEO then this Article is gonna burst your many myths about SEO. HMM. SEO Is “search engine optimization, Where you try to rank your site on first number or at least on first page you just have to create back links by signing up on sites. It is as easy as that.” This is what my teacher told me in the very first class. As I am  from a non technical background, I felt relief by knowing that I do not have to swim deep into the techniques. And I did the same in my 3 month classes, Just creating backlinks. I feel foolish now as i saw google search console only once in my 3 month old classes. But guess what, as soon as I started my SEO job many of my myths about the SEO burst. I have to get embarrassed in front of my seniors as they always say ” you don't know how to do it”. But as the old saying “time is the best teacher”, I have learned many things slowly but I did.  So let's jump to the topic.

It is a long process:-  It takes time. It is not as fast as we all think. By creating as many back-links as possible the next day we hope that our site jumps at least 10 places above. But it takes months to rank a site in the first place. But Sometimes if you got even one viral post(content) your site can jump to first place.

 Social media is a key to success:-  In initial days I barely posted any content on the social media sites. It was a big big mistake. Post regularly on all your social media accounts. You can drive quality traffic to your site from social media. 

Content is king of the game:- Those are the old days when people posted less quality content and got high ranking on the sites. There was a time when I was not able to find my mistake as my site was  getting less low in SERp even after doing everything that was possible. Later after reading many articles about SEO I came to know that without quality content you cannot survive in this game. Google got smarter. Unless or until your content is not better than others it is not gonna show up in search. 

Use google search console:- As I said before in the duration of 3 months of classes I only checked it 2 times. The mistake is how i am gonna know that i am going in the right direction if i am not checking the result, how i am gonna know that i am on the right path if i don’t check the results. You have to check google search console before starting your daily work. It is like a daily report card which tells you about your previous day's performance. It is a free tool which can be used to see the number of visitors, back links of the site, sitemap, pages of your site which need to be fixed. 

Keyword Research:- Do keyword research before working on it. You are not gonna be working on a keyword head over tail and at the end you came to know that the keyword has less traffic. In short it is useless to rank for a keyword that people do not often search.  For example google+. If you write a full fledged content about it. Created a lot of back-links about it, and posted blogs about it. It is all useless as google + has been shut down in 2011.  If people are not interested in it they are not searching for it. Work on the keywords that people are searching about.

Website Ranking report :- It is the policy of our company to make a Website ranking report at the end of the month. It means you have to search every single keyword you are working on to check the place your site is ranking. It gives a little impression of your work you have done in a month. This report is important for you. you can make it once a week to know about the ranking of your site. 

Never Stop Learning : - My seniors always advised me to read articles about the work you are doing, SEO is a never ending learning process. You come to new problems everyday, new words, new terms, tools, techniques. If you have any problem just search it and read about it. It is gonna teach you the thing that no one gonna tell you. Try to If you are doing 8 hours of job at-least give 30 minutes to the reading. 

Conclusion:- You have to be Patience in this job. Results take time. Be regular. Do research before making and changing your strategy.
